Three specifications tell you far more than the tier: measured peak brightness on a small window, the number of local dimming zones, and the panel's native contrast ratio. A VA panel with high native contrast and no local dimming can look better on dark content than an IPS panel with a nominal HDR badge. OLED and QD-OLED reach very high contrast without any dimming zones because each pixel emits its own light, which is why their HDR presentation looks different again. Read measured figures rather than certification tiers wherever you can.
