Mechanical Keyboard Testing

Press 10+ random keys—all should feel identical

Gently wiggle keycaps—minimal stem wobble is ideal

Press slowly—should be smooth, not scratchy

Listen for metallic "ping" on release—lubed springs eliminate this

Tap spacebar corners—should sound consistent, not rattly

Press left and right edges—even resistance both sides

These keys often have the worst stabs—test thoroughly

Try to twist/flex case—minimal flex indicates quality

Heavier boards (800g+) typically feel more premium

PBT > ABS for durability. Doubleshot > Laser-etched for legends

Check port for wobble—should be solid, centered

Should grip desk firmly, not slide during use

Insert/remove switch—should be snug, not loose

Tap case—hollow sound indicates need for foam dampening

All keys should have similar sound profile

Listen back—microphone reveals issues you miss in person

Change switches without soldering—essential for experimentation
