What it does well
- One thousand nits sustained across the full screen is the number that separates a real HDR reference display from a monitor that claims HDR. Most HDR monitors hit their peak in a small window and cannot hold it.
- Hardware calibration with profile write-back means the correction lives in the monitor rather than in the operating system, so it applies to every machine you connect and every application regardless of colour management.
- Delta E under one is a genuine reference specification, and ASUS having it as a stated target rather than a marketing adjective matters.
- Support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG covers the formats you actually have to master and check against.
- One hundred and twenty hertz with VRR means it is also usable for games and for motion review, which reference monitors historically were not.
Where it falls short
- Blooming. Eleven hundred and fifty two zones is a lot and each zone still covers many pixels, so a bright object on a black background shows a halo. On starfields, subtitles and UI elements it is visible, and an OLED does not do it.
- Calibration is a process, not a purchase. A reference display drifts, and keeping Delta E under one means owning a colorimeter and recalibrating on a schedule.
- It is enormous overkill for anyone not doing colour-critical work. If you are editing photos for the web, a good calibrated IPS panel at a third of the price gets you there.
- Mini LED panels get hot and this one has a substantial cooling arrangement, which means it is heavy and it is not silent in all conditions.
- The bundled Adobe Creative Cloud trial has a stated expiry, so check whether it is still available before treating it as part of the value.

What is Delta E and why does under 1 matter?
Delta E measures the difference between a colour a display is asked to show and the colour it actually shows. A value under one is generally considered imperceptible to the human eye in side-by-side comparison, which is the threshold at which you can trust what you are seeing. It only holds if the display is calibrated.
What is mini LED blooming?
Local dimming works by dividing the backlight into zones. Each zone covers many pixels, so a small bright object on a dark background lights its whole zone, producing a visible halo. More zones reduces it and does not eliminate it. OLED, where every pixel makes its own light, has none.
Do I need a colorimeter?
Yes, if accuracy is why you bought it. Panels drift with age and use, and hardware calibration on this display means the correction is written into the monitor rather than the operating system, which is better and still requires a measuring device to generate it. Budget for one.
Is 1600 nits peak the number that matters?
Sustained full-screen brightness matters more for reference work, and this monitor states 1000 nits sustained. Peak figures are usually measured in a small window and many displays cannot hold anything close to them across the whole panel, which is where HDR mastering actually lives.
Mini LED or OLED for professional work?
Mini LED for sustained brightness and for HDR work that needs it, with blooming as the trade. OLED for perfect blacks, no halo and better handling of bright objects on dark backgrounds, with lower sustained full-screen brightness. Which is right depends on the content you work on.
