What FPS do I need for smooth gaming?

30 FPS is the minimum playable threshold for most console games. 60 FPS is the standard for smooth PC gaming and makes a clearly visible difference over 30 FPS. 120-144 FPS is the sweet spot for competitive gaming — inputs feel more responsive and motion is smoother. Above 240 FPS, diminishing returns set in for most users. Your monitor's refresh rate caps the FPS you can display — a 60Hz monitor can't show 144 FPS.
